Motion for a European Parliament resolution on a European Afghan Women’s Forum: Europe providing opportunities for Afghan women and girls
The European Parliament,
– having regard to Rule 143 of its Rules of Procedure,
A. whereas the Taliban have been told countless times that women’s rights are human rights, that educating girls emancipates them and that listening to the opinions of girls and women would go a long way to ensuring the prosperity of Afghan society as a whole;
B. whereas the Taliban are now in power and have had the opportunity to see first-hand how after 20 years of European and international engagement, the Afghanistan they usurped and manipulated for terrorist purposes was on its way to becoming a strategically important centre for connectivity, development and friendship in the region;
1. Calls on the Commission to help Afghan women and girls, who are now being welcomed in the Member States, to develop a joint initiative, alongside Parliament, for a truly free and inclusive Afghanistan by establishing a ‘European Forum for Dialogue with Afghan Women’, which could also draft an Afghan Social Charter for a free social order in Afghanistan;
2. Calls on the competent bodies to consider holding the Afghan Women Days conference in the future, as well, in accordance with the applicable rules.
